Job description

Entry-Level Dental Assistant

Driven by Skill. Defined by Care.

We are seeking a dental assistant who brings attentiveness, emotional intelligence, and professionalism to every interaction. No prior dental assisting experience is required. We welcome someone who is eager to learn, takes pride in doing things well, and understands that exceptional care begins with how people are treated. We will provide training and guidance to help you develop your clinical skills.

About the Practice

The Haven Family & Cosmetic Dentistry is a modern practice in Gambrills, near Crofton, MD, dedicated to elevating every aspect of the patient experience. Led by Dr. Nitchel Bastien, DMD, FAGD, our team blends meticulous dentistry with a calming environment, helping patients feel at ease while receiving uncompromising care. We value team members who take ownership, care deeply about the details, and approach their work with discipline and compassion.

The Role

This is an opportunity to build your dental career in a practice where clinical excellence and meaningful human connection go hand in hand. You will learn to assist chairside, prepare treatment rooms, maintain instruments and supplies, and support patients throughout their visits. You will also help with front desk functions when needed.

As your skills develop, you will learn to anticipate what the dentist and patient need, support efficient patient flow, and contribute to the daily rhythm of the practice. We provide instruction and support, and expect you to bring focus, follow-through, and a willingness to improve.

You Are

Reliable, punctual, and organized, with a strong work ethic and a genuine desire to learn. You pay attention to details, follow instructions carefully, and ask questions when something is unclear. You take initiative while recognizing when to seek guidance, and you welcome feedback as part of becoming excellent at your work.

You are calm, empathetic, and professional with patients. You listen closely, communicate thoughtfully, and understand that a reassuring explanation or small act of consideration can shape someone’s entire experience. You work well with others, adapt when priorities change, and follow through on your responsibilities. You bring the same care to preparing a treatment room as you do to helping a nervous patient feel comfortable.

Qualifications

No prior dental assisting experience or Certified Dental Assistant credential is required. A high school diploma or equivalent, strong communication and organizational skills, basic computer proficiency, and a commitment to patient privacy, safety, and professional conduct are required. Dental assisting coursework or related customer service, hospitality, or healthcare experience is welcome.

Current CPR/BLS and dental radiography certifications are preferred. Candidates without these credentials must be willing to obtain those required for their assigned duties. Training and responsibilities will progress according to demonstrated competency and applicable requirements.

What You’ll Do

Chairside Assistance

Learn to prepare materials, identify and transfer instruments, and assist the dentist during procedures. Develop precise, attentive habits that support efficient treatment and patient comfort.

Clinical Preparation and Organization

Prepare and reset treatment rooms, clean and sterilize instruments, and maintain equipment according to practice protocols. Learn and consistently follow infection control procedures, keeping clinical spaces organized and ready for care.

Patient Comfort and Communication

Welcome and seat patients, listen to their concerns, and help create a calming experience. Assist with documenting health information and reinforce dentist-approved treatment and post-operative instructions as trained.

Dental Technology and Imaging Support

Learn to use dental software, digital imaging systems, and clinical equipment. Assist with imaging preparation and perform radiographic duties only after obtaining the required credentials and demonstrating competency.

Team and Administrative Support

Help manage supplies, coordinate patient flow, and support scheduling and front desk functions as needed. Communicate clearly, complete assigned tasks, and help teammates keep the day running smoothly.

What Success Looks Like

Success means becoming a dependable teammate whose skills, confidence, and judgment steadily grow. You apply feedback, follow protocols, maintain organized clinical spaces, and help patients feel welcomed and supported. Over time, you anticipate routine needs, complete tasks with greater independence, and contribute to a culture of exceptional service, continuous learning, and shared accountability.

What We Offer

Competitive compensation based on qualifications and experience, paid time off, a uniform allowance, hands-on training, and continuing education and professional development opportunities. You will join a collaborative team in a modern practice where clinical excellence and patient experience are equally valued.

Submit your resume and include a brief note about your interest in the field and what you would bring to our team.
