Outpatient Registered Nurse - Entry-Level

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

Join our dedicated team as an Outpatient Registered Nurse where you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality patient care. This entry-level position in the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP) focuses on the assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation of care for patients with End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD). You will collaborate with healthcare professionals and may delegate responsibilities to patient care staff, ensuring effective treatment delivery and improved patient outcomes.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide ongoing patient assessments before, during, and after hemodialysis, making necessary adjustments and collaborating with the healthcare team.
• Educate patients and families about their care plans and available treatment options to promote informed decision-making.
• Directly oversee patient care staff to ensure safe and effective hemodialysis therapy for your assigned patients.
• Administer medications as prescribed and document patient responses accordingly.
• Participate in emergency response efforts and assist in developing staff through training and orientation programs.
• Ensure laboratory procedures are conducted correctly and assist in rescheduling as necessary.
• Update and document nursing assessments and care plans in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team.
• Complete CAP requirements for career advancement.
• Perform additional tasks as assigned by your supervisor.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

This role requires the ability to engage in direct patient care, involving heavy lifting and assisting with ambulation. Key physical demands include:

• Frequent prolonged standing and bending.
• Assistance required for moving equipment up to 200 lbs. and lifting solutions of up to 30 lbs.
• Work in a healthcare facility environment with controlled temperature and moderate noise levels, with potential exposure to infectious materials.
• Engagement in desk work, computer tasks, and interacting with patients and healthcare teams.
• Travel to training locations may be required.

SUPERVISION:

In this role, you may provide oversight to Patient Care Technicians, LPNs, and other RNs as a Team Leader after meeting prerequisite training and experience requirements.

EDUCATION and LICENSURE:

• Graduated from an accredited School of Nursing.
• Must possess a current active state nursing license.
• Current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification.

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

• This position is open to RNs with less than 2 years of nephrology nursing experience.
• Chronic or acute hemodialysis experience is preferred.
