Outpatient Registered Nurse - RN (Entry-Level)

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

As an entry-level professional in the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP), the Outpatient RN is responsible for providing and coordinating high-quality care for a dedicated patient group. This includes assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation, alongside delegating tasks to direct care staff. In collaboration with the End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) healthcare team, you will engage in decision-making, education, leadership roles, and activities aimed at improving patient care outcomes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform clinical duties as directed by the Supervisor, with guidance from Clinical Educators, Preceptors, and fellow RNs.
• Systematically collect and analyze patient data related to hemodialysis treatment and document all findings accurately.
• Assess patient and family learning needs, providing ongoing education and resources to enhance understanding.
• Work in collaboration with a team to ensure safe and effective hemodialysis therapy delivery.
• Administer medications as prescribed while documenting effectiveness and medical justification.
• Participate in emergency response protocols and serve as a resource for the healthcare team.
• Ensure laboratory procedures are correctly followed, rescheduling any missed collections as necessary.
• Collaborate with the Interdisciplinary Team to update nursing assessments and care plans.
• Foster awareness of transplant and treatment options among patients.
• Complete the CAP requirements for career advancement.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by Supervisor.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

This role involves direct patient care and may require heavy lifting and movement of patients. You should be capable of standing for prolonged periods and performing tasks that may involve moving equipment of considerable weight.

You will work in a healthcare facility with controlled air temperature and moderate noise levels, potentially exposing you to infectious materials. Daily tasks include desk work, patient interactions, and collaboration with facility staff and physicians. Some travel for training may be required, and you may need to provide care in various locations with similar physical demands.

SUPERVISION:

After meeting all prerequisites, you may supervise Patient Care Technicians or other nursing staff.

EDUCATION and LICENSURE:

• Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
• Possess current state licensure.
• Hold current CPR BLS Certification.

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

This position is designed for RNs with less than 2 years of Nephrology Nursing experience. While chronic and acute hemodialysis experience is preferred, we welcome new RNs eager to grow and learn.
